What changed

East Riding of Yorkshire Council is offering free Wellbeing for Us support to residents aged 18 and over. The programme combines face-to-face workshops with informal peer-support groups covering anxiety, stress management and self-esteem, and is currently running in Withernsea, Hornsea, Bridlington, Beverley, Driffield, Pocklington, Goole and Hessle.

Why it matters

The useful part is that this is more than a one-off conversation about wellbeing. Residents can build confidence, meet other people and, where needed, be connected with community organisations, NHS referrals and other health services.

That makes the programme a practical first step for someone who feels isolated or overwhelmed but is not sure where to begin. Sessions are also being held as drop-ins in Goole and at Lelley Fields Crematorium, while more peer groups are planned.

The scale of demand is still unclear: no attendance, capacity or outcome figures have been given. But with World Mental Health Day on 10 October, the council is putting local, free support in places residents can access now.
